The Iron Press Anaheim – Tuesday Tap Takeover – Drake’s Brewing Lineup

Hello fellow craft beer connoisseurs!  Man oh man, do we have something special coming your way!  We’ve teamed up with our brew homies from up north for an all out Tuesday Tap Takeover extravaganza for your tastebuds.  We will have 17 (YES! WE SAID 17!) of Drake’s Brewing’s finest craft beers on tap.  It’s all going down on January 20th, 2015 A.D. from 5 P.M. to 10 P.M. at our Anaheim location.  You’ll be able to get your lips on some of their West Coast classics, like “1500”, a hop centric pale ale that echoes Drake’s love for the California coast, or you can go big and sip on a goblet of one of their delicious boozy concoctions, like the super roasty “Santa Brass”, an in-your-face barleywine that doesn’t pull any punches.  If this lineup doesn’t make you thirsty, we don’t know what will!  Check it out:

DRAKES BLONDE 4.8% ABV

Drake’s version of a German Kolsch ale. Light straw, gold in color with a light body and spritzy effervescence. A perfect, light, classic session ale with mild aromas of biscuit malt and subtle citrus/lemon. The flavor is light with a slightly sweet malt character and balanced with the soft, spicy Noble hops. A great craft example of a lighter style, balanced beer.
DRAKES IPA 7% ABV

A classic west-coast style American India Pale Ale, Drake’s IPA is copper in color and full-bodied. Hops hit first with strong grapefruit, pine and floral aromas, and the flavor is a burst of citrus, pine, a strong bitterness that is backed up with just the right amount of light crystal and Munich malts to balance the hops and bitterness with a touch of caramel sweetness.
DRAKES HEFEWEIZEN 4.5% ABV

Drake’s Hefeweizen is true to its Bavarian roots, pouring a hazy golden/orange with a thick, creamy head. Classic aromas of bananas and clove mingle with those of light orange/citrus. A great, local craft example of a sought after style. Fresh, refreshing and well suited for local Hefeweizen fans.
DRAKES DENOGGINIZER 9.75% ABV

Denogginizer is a big, bold Imperial IPA. Hops flavors and aromas of grapefruit, pine, and tropical fruit hit first backed up with a big caramel, malt sweetness to balance out the intense hop character and bitterness. More balanced than many Imperial IPAs on the market, Denogginizer is accessible and very drinkable despite its big, bold flavors and staggering ABV. Drake’s tells its fans to “Hold on to their heads.” It’s good advice.
DRAKES AMBER 5.9% ABV

Drake’s Amber ale is their take on an English style ESB. Toasted toffee, caramel malts take center stage with a subtle spicy, herbal and earthy hop balance from East Kent Goldings and Willamette hops. The beer finishes clean and fairly dry, and is a perfect complement to many foods from roasted chicken, to pork shank, and hearty grilled or roasted vegetables.
DRAKES ROBUSTO PORTER 6.3% ABV

Deeper, darker, and by style stronger in alcohol by volume than a classic brown porter (thus “robust”), Drake’s Black Robusto is a full-bodied ale that goes down smoothly. Flavors of bittersweet chocolate and slight roast from crystal and chocolate malts dominate, and a spicy herbal hop character from Willamette hops balance out the finish.
DRAKES DRY STOUT (NITRO*) 5.4% ABV

Drake’s Dry Stout is served on nitrogen and thus smooth and creamy. Flavors of dark chocolate and roasted coffee abound and finish smooth with just enough hop to balance. True to style this beer is sessionable at 5.4%, and leaves you with a dry, lingering roasted finish.
DRAKES 1500 5.5% ABV

Drake’s hop-forward take on an American Pale Ale. 1500 has all the hop flavor and biting bitterness of a West-Coast style IPA but is lighter in alcohol and in body. The hop-head’s session beer, 1500 is extra hoppy and extra refreshing.
DRAKES 7 X 70 IPA 7%ABV

7×70 IPA clocks in at 7% ABV and 70 IBUs (hence the name) and starts with a citric burst from the Amarillo, El Dorado, and Citra hops in the boil. A lean malt bill lets the hops really shine through with only 2-row and a touch of lightly toasted pale malt. The dry hop features a second boost of tropical citrus from Calypso hops, as well as a slap of pine from the Simcoes.
DRAKES BARREL ROCK 7.75% ABV

Barrel house rock is a collaboration between Drakes brewers, Barrel house employees and Jeff Kimpe of Triple Rock in Berkeley. This Flanders Red style beer was brewed in celebration of the anniversary on Drake’s Barrel house and Triple Rock brewery, and then aged for over a year in Chardonnay barrels from Wente in Livermore. It was inoculated with a blend of house souring cultures to get a mild tartness and traditional funk. The aroma of dark cherries currants, wine and oak melds with a malt sweetness and brett funk. On the tongue the tartness is more apparent; it hits you first, but later gives way to a pleasant malt sweetness with hints of cherry cola and Chardonnay. Grab a glass and celebrate with us!
DRAKES PUNGENT PUMPKIN (wild ale) 4.8 ABV

This is Drake’s yearly pumpkin and squash fall seasonal, aged in Cabernet barrels with their house sour culture for one year. This beer drinks dry and fairly tart with the sour notes playing off of the slight malty flavors of the original beer.  The aroma showcases spicy floral and citrus notes backed with a slight malty, bready aroma and brett aromas.  This beer still drinks with a hint of pumpkin and a distinctly seasonal malt profile, but don’t worry, they didn’t any spices to compete with the flavors of this unique beer.
DRAKES PAPA ROY PECHE’ (Farmhouse Ale) 6.6% ABV

This beer started life as a Belgian pale and was aged for a total of 8 months in stainless steel with Brettanomyces, the last 3 months of which were with 80lbs of fresh peaches.  The beer is named after Roy Kirkorian who sourced the peaches from a friend’s orchard in fresno. Papa Roy’s Peche’ drinks light and refreshing with tons of peach aroma, a very mild tartness, and slight brett aromas of tropical fruit and brett funk.
DRAKES SANTA BRASS (Barleywine) 13.8% ABV

This slightly sweet high abv beer drinks exactly like a big barleywine should. The malty sweetness is balanced by the near 14% abv all while showcasing a complex flavor profile of vanilla, caramel, dark fruit, with hints of Bourbon and oak spice. Santa’s Brass started out life as two separate high ABV beers aged for just over a year in Bourbon barrels. After a year on oak each beer ended up complementing each other perfectly and were blended together to achieve a balance of those great caramel and roasted dark malt flavors. This one is truly a winter warmer and is best sipped next to an open fire sitting in your favorite armchair of your personal Library or War Room.  Dont have a “library” or “War Room”?  Well, Drake’s Barrel house or your local watering hole will work in a pinch.
DRAKES RYE BBL AGED JOLLY RODGER 2013 12.6% ABV

The 2013 batch of Imperial American Black ale aged in Highwest Rye Barrels.  Watch out, this beer is a big one with 12.6% and lots of barrel character.  On the nose there are notes of caramel, raisins and spice backed by distinct rye whiskey aromas.  On the tongue this beer drinks fairly smooth with lots of dark fruit but whiskey character still lets you know its a big beer.
DRAKES JOLLY RODGER (FIRKIN*) 9% ABV

Rich and complex, Jolly Rodger 2014 features luscious chocolaty and subtle roasted malt flavors that blend expertly with a specially made roast of Kenya Kangunu coffee to create aromas of caramelized stone fruit and flavors of black currant, tobacco, and caramel.

So, get your livers ready for what is for sure going to be a great night of craft beer glory!  Make sure to come hungry for some amazing dinner and dessert specialties that we’ll be cranking out and don’t forget your dancin’ shoes!  DJ Lex will be here rockin’ your favorite tunes on the 1’s and 2’s.  We hope you can make it!
